Duality in Light

Two amaryllis on one stem — one still opening, white and tentative; the other fully declared, red without apology. The same root, two answers to the same question.
The glass vase holds both, and holds the teal surface's reflection inside itself — so the ground becomes part of the vessel, the vessel becomes part of the light. Nothing is entirely separate. The dark vase behind recedes not in defeat but in deference, carrying a single leaf the way a person carries a memory they no longer speak aloud.
Two fruits flank the arrangement. One elongated, asymmetrical — the kumquat, slightly turned away, stem trailing. One round, complete, facing forward. Again: the same nature, different conclusions. Neither is ripe in the wrong direction.
The black ground doesn't threaten. It clarifies. What survives against it earns its presence.
This is a painting about the people we contain — the unfinished and the fully opened, coexisting without contradiction. Whoever lives with this work will recognize it not as a still life but as a quiet argument: that duality is not a problem to resolve. That two true things can share one stem.
